Tuesday, March 03, 2009The jet stream ain’t what it used to beApparently Rangers' hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo is a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change:"You know all this [bleep] that’s going on around the world, weather-wise, well, we’re seeing it in Arlington. The jet stream at The Ballpark ain’t what it used to be. That’s changing. I think it’ll help our arms. It's true." I'll admit that I have relied on news summaries and have not actually read any of the IPCC's reports. Thanks to Jaramillo, however, now I can just flip to the index and look under "bleep." Several thoughts immediately crossed my mind as I read the entry. 1. Now Scott Boras will be able to include a section on ‘One of the top five pitchers to pitch in a ballpark that has been impacted by global warming’. 2. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if George Bush’s environmental policies were influenced by his desire to see his former team have a better chance at attracting top pitching FAs. 3. How strong of a wind is necessary to blow some common sense into Tom Hicks? Lastly - nicely done Sara K. Posted 03/03 at 12:04 PM

Wasn’t that a line in Bull Durham? “Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes La Nina creates an unstable weather pattern that contributes to unfavorable playing conditions. That, and we just weren’t seeing the ball today.”
