The Mets retaliate for the David Wright beaning

Regrettable, but it's right there in the unwritten rules. You can find it unwritten right below that business about not stealing a base with a big lead.

I suspect Hugo Chavez will consider this an act of American aggression and add it to his list of why he hates us.

I understand retaliation, and I’m old-school enough that it don’t bother me.

What bothers me is that the umpire warned both sides not to do anything and the league did not suspend Santana for plunking Molina.  I know in years past that when the same thing happened to the Giants, our player was thrown out immediately - Santana was taken out by his manager before being thrown out - and was lost to us for the suspension.

Particularly since it was also after Panda hit a homer off him after the knockdown pitch.

Are you implying that punishment by umpires/league office may not be metered out objectively?

I am totally and uttering shocked that someone may question the ob(sub)jectivity of the league. smile

As a history buff of sorts, this reminds of the incident back in 1960, when Billy Martin shattered Chicago Cubs’ pitcher Jim Brewer’s cheek bone after a brush-back pitch.  Next day, Cubs kidnap Martin’s family, water-board his wife and kids. But murder?  Today’s game has gotten out of hand.

From “Tropic Thunder”:

[Tugg has just killed a panda]

Tugg Speedman: I killed one, Rick… the thing I love most in the world.

Rick Peck: A hooker. Oh Jesus, you killed a hooker!

The 1960 incident taught Martin to assault only starting pitchers.

This story made me cry.  I don’t know why.
