Too Low for Zero

With the way things have been going for the Nats lately, they'd kill for even mediocre play this season. Well, for at least one day this summer, mediocre playing is exactly what will be on display in Nationals' Park.

(thanks to Charles K. for the heads up)

When I “young and dumb” and dating a girl who liked both of them, I went and saw Elton and Billy do whatever it is they do in Philly.  And I will say: it is EXACTLY what you would think two 60 year old baby boomers with pianos and schmaltz would be like.

*nice* allusion to a little-heard, oft-forgotten EJ album. It’s no Yellow Brick Road…hell it’s not even a “Sleeping with the Past”...but it’s…something.

At 29, I shouldn’t know these things.  But as a homo, I should.  Kinda balances out?

I was too young to really be aware of Elton in his heydey, so “Too Low for Zero” was actually the first EJ album I knew really well.  “I’m still standaing,” etc.

And to be honest, I have a soft spot for Elton John.  If “Tiny Dancer” comes on the radio, there’s no way I’m changing the channel and no way I’m not singing along.  I’ll even go so far as to say that Billy Joel isn’t the anti-christ he’s often made out to be.  There is some undeniably worthy McCartney-lite stuff in his catalog, and I’m not ashamed to admit it.

Both of them together in dueling-pianos mode, though?  Pass.  Each of their worst excesses will no doubt be played to the hilt.

Elton’s body of work from about 1970-1975 is just fantastic, captain.

i’m going to the EJ/BJ concert when they come to Nashville…will report back.  Shoulda at least be no worse than the usual sight in the building—the Preds losing hockey games.

I want Elton John’s tailor.  That is a work of art, or architecture.
