Friday, August 07, 2009Tragedy in MinnesotaPicking up Carl Pavano is defensible, but this was not:To make room for Pavano, knuckleballing reliever R.A. Dickey was optioned to Triple-A. This is a dark, dark day. Posted by Craig Calcaterra at 12:46pm Comments

All things considered, the farther away he is from Yankee Stadium, the better. Dickey should be picked up by the pinstripes Posted 08/07 at 01:37 PM

And just to make matters worse, RJ Swindle was also DFAd today. Posted 08/07 at 01:49 PM

Their numbers (I know, I know, one’s a starter and one’s a reliever) are comparable except Pavano gives up more homers per inning and hence has an ERA almost a point higher, but maybe Minnesota felt the need of starting help more than relief help, though I don’t see it myself, but, but….. THIS IS JUST BAD KARMA and the Twins have cursed themselves out of any kind good fortune for the rest of the year. How can you send down a knucleballer for Carl Pavano? If they don’t bring back RA when rosters expand, they are dead to me. (Not that I care about the Twins all that much anyway,,,,,) Posted 08/07 at 01:58 PM

As a Twins fan it’s a dark day because Liriano wasn’t exiled back to the farm. Here’s hoping Liriano replaces Dickey in the ‘pen. Posted 08/07 at 02:09 PM

As usual, Yankees fans think they have automatic first rights to everything. Dickey was optioned, not waived or DFA’d. The Yankess can’t just “pick him up.” Posted 08/07 at 02:10 PM

Way to generalize, ecp. Posted 08/07 at 02:27 PM

Jason, thanks for coming to my defense. Besides, we only buy our enemies to set them straight, and a knuckleballer doesn’t faze us (i.e. Wakefield most of the past few years). Posted 08/07 at 02:44 PM

Sounds like we may be getting Dickey back up soon - the TV guys were saying he will go right to the rotation in Rochester to stretch out his arm a bit and be ready to help the Twins rotation. And could they use it! Posted 08/07 at 08:59 PM

That’s R.J. Swindle, not R.A. Dickey, who was DFAed. Swindle was claimed on waivers by the Rays, who then DFAed Jon Meloan. . . Posted 08/08 at 04:45 PM

And now the Rays have DFAed Swindle to make roster space for Russ Springer, whom they claimed off waivers from the A’s. . . Posted 08/09 at 02:18 AM
