My kind of lawmaker!

For all I know, Missouri legislator Jason Crowell is a member of the Whig party, is opposed to women’s suffrage, and thinks we should declare war on Imperial Spain, but from what I do know of him, I like the cut of his jib:

A Missouri lawmaker is threatening to put an end to plans for the $600-million Ballpark Village project, next to Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Representative Jason Crowell told the Springfield News-Leader that hell will freeze over before public subsides for the project pass. After about nine hours of debate today, the Senate decided it will revisit the issue next week.

I’m guessing that if they debated it for nine hours after his statement, Mr. Crowell doesn’t carry a lot of weight in Jefferson City, but man, I really do like a guy who states his position clearly.

Are you suggesting that we should NOT declare war on the Spaniard? A pox I say!

A shining example of how baseball stadiums do not generate development.  This development has been stalled since well before the recession.

There was discussion here about Petco recently.  I think in that instance Moores had to commit to develop surrounding properties in order to get the stadium built.  None of these promises that development would organically sprout up after the ballpark was complete.

The spin during the All Star break will be fun.

Busch is about 2 blocks from the Mississippi River waterfront, right by the Arch.  This seems like a PERFECT place to develop a shopping/party area.  There are already riverboats that cruise from right near al this.  I don’t live there, and I’ve only been there 4 or 5 times, but I can’t think of a better ballpark area to put such a development.  It would definitely NOT be a game day only attraction (like Victory Park in Dallas near the American Airlines Center).

From what I’ve seen, STL is not the richest city in America, and something like that would certainly add something substantial to the public coffers if they build it right, and, of course, finance it right…..

It will happen eventually. In the hierarchy of Missouri, Cardinal baseball still outranks any political effort for pretty much anything.
