The daily grind: 8-28

The Fanduel picks are a mixture of Daily League specific advice and information for the more typical fantasy owner.

Today’s grind

Those in leagues with same-day moves should refer back to yesterday’s table.

The Fanduel Daily League Players of the Day are:

Pitcher (to start): Scott Diamond is 49 percent owned and given his match-up against the Mariners, this could be his last appearance in the Grind for the season.

Tommy Milone and Zach McAllister square off today. Both pitchers are solid but unspectacular, and both lineups are merely unspectacular.

Pitcher (bum): None of the pitchers today are terrible, but the new-look Dodgers could put together some runs against Tyler Chatwood. Especially since the Rockies are home.

Ricky Romero against the Yankees is a recipe for runs too.

Hitter (power): Andruw Jones appears to be the top power option for today. Domonic Brown also has a decent match-up but his swing isn’t showing much room for power production and he has a bum wheel, so he doesn’t fit in the speed category either.

Hitter (speed): Carlos Gomez and Ben Revere show up frequently and there’s a reason. Both are strong plays for today.

Tomorrow’s grind

Matt Harvey’s not nearly as good as his early numbers might indicate and he’s already 39 percent owned. His match-up against the Phillies is definitely start-worthy.

I want to be able to recommend Alex Cobb, but he’s facing the Rangers and that just isn’t a good gamble. He’s been hot and isn’t walking anyone lately.

Brandon Moss, Delmon Young and our old friend Andruw Jones have good power match-ups for tomorrow. For those in need of speed, Coco Crisp, Juan Pierre and Will Venable look like good places to start.

Reliever watch

Rafael Soriano blew the save last night. His job security isn’t perfect since David Robertson is available. That said, his role is safe for now.

Speaking of Robertson, he’s now a father. He opted not to take the short paternity leave that players are entitled to.

And speaking of paternity leave, Dale Thayer has been away the last two nights, opening the door for Luke Gregerson. He’s converted two saves in Thayer’s absence, which only muddies the water.
