The Italian Dusty Baker

Ron Rollins — writer of the most excellent Baseball Over Here — has found a whale of a pitching line from the Italian leagues. Even better: a Melvin Mora sighting!

UPDATE: OK, that may not be Melvin Mora. At least unless he has rented a decommissioned Concorde jet and is moonlighting. My guess: Marco Mora. Or maybe Massimo Mora.

Kerry Wood and Mark Prior approve this message.

Scott Proctor called from the MRI tube to ask if Torre was the bench coach.

Mora is playing for the O’s.

Baltimore 3B Melvin Mora smashed his first spring home run on Saturday against the Marlins. Mora went 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored and is now batting .200 on the spring in 15 at bats.

    Fantasy Analysis
Mora, the starting 3B for Baltimore, hit .373 with 12 home runs in the second half last season. He’s not getting any younger though, and is more of a bench option in mixed leagues than anything else. Expect no more than 15 home runs or so, even if he can remain healthy.

I have no idea how I didn’t know that.

Ron: we may be dealing with a “Marco Mora” or something like it in that box score.

I think I spoke to soon. Jason, from IIATMS, has informed that Melvin Mora is in camp with the Orioles.

I have the wrong Melvin Mora sighting. My apologies, who knew there could be two of them.

I will check my sources better next time.

The Dusty Baker comments, however, remain fair game.

What I’ve done, somehow, is mix up Melvin Mora with former Oriole SS Manny Alexander, who is in Italy this year.

The problem is, do I owe an apology to Melvin or Manny?
