Ever want to know what it’s like to be a scout? Here’s one guy’s experience.

My guess is that it’s a fake article. Why? Not a single mention of cigars, cheap whiskey or pork pie hats. Based on all of the baseball movies I’ve seen, scouts always have that stuff.

What struck me was that they apparently gave this guy a scouting position without training him for the position, and without first trying to determine whether or not he would be any good at the job. Just because you love the game and come from a family that’s in the baseball business doesn’t mean that you’ll be any good at evaluating talent. At the very least, I would think that you’d test the guy by sending him out to scout some players that have already been evaluated by an experienced scout that you thought well of.
