Prospect three-day weekend

Big week in the prospect world. Big week.

The Arizona Fall League rosters were announced, which lets us know which prospects we get to see more of this year. The highlight of the roster release was in the Scottsdale Scorpions outfield, where we found out that the top two prospects in the game, Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, will be roaming around together.

The remainder of the rosters are laced with prospects, the most important of which I have broken down. You can check out the full rosters here.

It’s also call-up time, and some big names are heading to the majors.

The biggest of these is Jesus Montero, who is finally heading to the Big Apple. He should get an opportunity to see some significant time at DH in September, with the possibility of using the injury-replacement loophole in order to get him on the postseason roster if he performs.

Another catcher on his way is Devin Mesoraco, who will be joining the struggling Reds. Given their hopeless situation in the NL Central, Mesoraco should see plenty of September at-bats.

Joining the Rays outfield is Brandon Guyer, acquired from the Cubs in the Matt Garza trade this past offseason. In a last effort to make a run at the AL West, the Angels have called up Andrew Romine to solidify their infield. The Rockies have brought up Wilin Rosario to take part in some of the catching duties in Colorado.

On the injury front, the Twins announced that Kyle Gibson will finally undergo Tommy John surgery. The team gave rehab a shot after multiple opinions on his arm, but in the end, surgery was the only option. That should end up costing Gibson all of 2012.
