The graphics next to each team are called “sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each “up” bar is a victory and a “down” bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and gray bars represent games decided by two runs or less. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.

Game of the Day

You just can’t count out Atlanta. The Braves are 14-5 in their last nineteen games and now in second place in the NL East. This game marked the succesful return of Horacio Ramirez from the disabled list. The Cubs have been worse than Kansas City the last month (6-23) and lost this game on a botched relay throw.

THT’s Stats

FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) is a measure of a pitcher’s core strengths (strikeouts, walks and home runs). A pitcher’s ERA will generally be close to his FIP and ERA will usually move toward FIP when there is a big difference between the two. Following is a list of the biggest differences so far. Note that two White Sox are at the top of the list, and that Scott Elarton appears to be “lucky” to have a 4.76 ERA.
