A captivating Annual

John Dewan recently read the 2010 THT Annual on a plane trip and here’s what he had to say:

I recently had a chance to sit down with The Hardball Times Baseball Annual 2010 and was completely captivated by the quality writing and analysis it contains. I cannot recommend a book more highly than this year’s THT annual.

Yes, John is the Co-Publisher of ACTA Sports, the guys who publish our Annual, so he’s just a tad biased. On the other hand, John sent me an email that made it clear his feelings were sincere; he’s never really given us public (or private) feedback like this before. It was nice to hear.

I know you’re probably already done with your Christmas shopping and Amazon is out of stock right now. Very frustrating. But you can probably find the Annual at your local bookstore, and I think the baseball fan in your house will thank you profusely for it. Plus, ACTA can ship it to you quickly.

If you’ve gotten the book and have some feedback for us, please leave it in the comment section. One reader left a review at Amazon, but we’d like to have more reviews posted there. Feedback is always welcome. For instance, one of the ideas I’m thinking about for next year’s Annual is cutting down the size to a more manageable 6×9, which can be carried and read more easily. This was mentioned in the Amazon review, and I’ve toyed with the idea before. What do you think?

As always, thank you for your support.

I agree regarding the size for transportation and readability.

But man, some of those charts and graphs are going to be IMPOSSIBLE to produce, no?  It’s going to be a challenge anyway.  I’d like to see an example of some of the charts as a 6×9, just to see.

Many B&N stores are carrying it.  Most people can probably pick their up that way.  I’ve had mine for several weeks.  It’s really an excellent edition.

Thanks, Anthony. Let us know if you have specific highlights or lowlights in mind.

Tom, you’re right about the graphs and charts.  I was thinking of totally reformatting that section and putting less emphasis on it anyway, since the main drawing card of the Annual is the articles and not the stats.

Just thinking at this point…

Please, please, please don’t change the size!  It’s not super portable, but I’d rather have all the info than something smaller.  I still read the book on the way to and from work and the portability wasn’t an issue.  Thanks for another great annual!

Dave & Co.,
The 2010 Annual is everything I had hoped for, and so much more. Please DO NOT reduce the size. Portability is a non-factor as far as I’m concerned. One thing you could do for the folks that want portability is to make a downloadable version available to those who purchase the book. That way they can have all the articles on their laptops along with those terrific batted ball stats you made available this year. My own copy is dog eared and tattered beyond belief, but that’s how it ends up looking every year, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. This year’s writing is particularly crisp and concise where needed, and expansively deep when appropriate. I have not finished it all, but when I do, I will post a full review at Amazon.
Thank you for another astounding job!
