Catching their Z’s

Two major league pitchers named Zambrano had fine starts today. Carlos Zambrano carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning against the Cardinals. I was at Wrigley today with my brother, and he predicted Zambrano would give up a hit after sitting for a long time while the Cubbies scored ten runs in the bottom of the fourth. Lo and behold, the first batter walked and the second batter, John Mabry, homered. Still, I think Zambrano will take the 12-3 win.

More impressively, Victor Zambrano carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning tonight, when Damon Minor singled to right. The Devil Rays now lead the Giants 5-1 in the eighth.

Dave Studeman was called a "national treasure" by Rob Neyer. Seriously. Follow his sporadic tweets @dastudes.
