Hottovy saves the day

On Wednesday, Wichita State’s Mike Pelfrey had his worst start in recent memory, giving up six runs in a loss to Evansville. That was in the first round of the double-elimination Missouri Valley Conference tournament — a tourney the Shockers need to win if they want to host an NCAA regional.

Yesterday, Tommy Hottovy took the mound against Indiana State. He wasn’t perfect (4 earned runs in 7.1 innings), but he struck out 8 and walked none and pitched well enough to help WSU to a 13-7 victory.

Hottovy has now started three NCAA games. In 20.1 innings in those starts, Hottovy has struck out 24 while walking… zero.
