Hudson & Perez: BIS & Pitch f/x

David Appelman takes a cool look at how well pitch identification data from Baseball Info Solutions matches up with that gathered from Pitch f/x, and finds that it matched up relatively well for Tim Hudson and not so well for Odalis Perez on Opening Day. Data quality issues are one of the most important under the radar issues facing sabermetrics today, in my opinion, as more and more analysis is relying on very fine-grained data, and it’s good to have bright people like Dave working on them.
