Mets call up Wright

The Mets just called up uberprospect David Wright, who was rated the second best prospect in baseball in Bryan Smith’s midseason report. Wright has shot through AA and AAA ball this year, and appears ready to contribute on a major league level. Hopefully, he’s also ready to handle the New York pressure.

In related news, the Mets acquired Mike Piazza’s younger brother, Tommy, from the Dodgers. The Mets seem to have a thing for baseball genetics. Last year, they promoted Tom Glavine’s brother to the major league roster so the two could play together for at least one game. And in the past, the Mets have spent first-round picks on Mookie Wilson’s son Preston (a successful pick) and Lee May’s son Lee May Jr. (a disaster).

Dave Studeman was called a "national treasure" by Rob Neyer. Seriously. Follow his sporadic tweets @dastudes.
