Streak Over

Eric Gagne just blew a save. It’s been a very long time since someone could say that. After 84 straight saves, Gagne just gave up two runs in the top of the 9th inning against the Diamondbacks, blowing a 5-3 lead.

After striking out Scott Hairston to start the inning, Gagne gave up a single to Shea Hillenbrand, a double to Luis Gonzalez, and a single to Chad Tracy. And just like that, the streak was over.

Interestingly enough, Gagne’s last blown save was way back on August 26, 2002 … against these same Arizona Diamondbacks.

Vin Scully, as usual, put it best: “So, Eric Gagne comes back to join the rest of us mere mortals … for the moment.”
