Top 300 position players

Sean (“Call me Chone”) Smith has posted the top 300 position players of the Retrosheet era, according to his Wins Above Replacement metric. I don’t claim that his calculations are perfect or his metric is the last word (and he doesn’t, either), but it is cutting-edge stuff and perhaps the best metric now available for rating all players since 1955.

The biggest surprise to me is that Lou Whitaker is 26th, just ahead of Tony Gwynn.

Dave Studeman was called a "national treasure" by Rob Neyer. Seriously. Follow his sporadic tweets @dastudes.
