Total Zone Defense on Baseball Reference

Sean Forman has added yet another great feature to Baseball-reference.com. Total Zone defense for the 2010 season is now updated daily. I’m the inventor of the stat, but even I can’t do that. I wait until the season ends and retrosheet provides the play by play files. Sean has the data, and I worked with him to get it up on the site daily. Check out how much defense has helped baseball’s best team so far, the Tampa Bay Rays. Minor league data for 2005-2009 are also available. If you’re sick of watching old outfielders let flyballs drop in as the Angels get swept yet again, there is hope on the farm in Peter Bourjos. That is, if he can hit enough for the MLB level.
