Win Shares Updated

2004 Win Shares have been updated. Believe it or not, the leader in American League Win Shares Above Average is the Yankees’ Gary Sheffield, with Manny Ramirez, Michael Young and Travis Hafner (!) right behind.

Sheffield is helped a lot by the Yankees’ positive pythagorean variance, which is seven wins above projections. Still, he has been sizzling lately. After GPAs (Gross Production Average) of .281 and .266 the first two months, he hit .391 in June, and has been hitting .308 this month.

Meanwhile, Hafner’s GPA this month is .450.

Dave Studeman was called a "national treasure" by Rob Neyer. Seriously. Follow his sporadic tweets @dastudes.
