Today at THT

Things to read while you contemplate snow-outs in Chicago:

  • The THT staff has its predictions up. I am the sole person who has the Rangers winning the division. No, I’m not sure why either. Just feels right.
  • Chris Jaffe runs down times when baseball history and real life history coincided. Not as good as the time milestones in Marilu Henner history and space exploration coincided, but it’s a solid article all the same. And if you get that reference you, like me, have no life and a fabulous memory.
  • Evan Brunell has five questions for the Boston Red Sox. Question number six: are we really supposed to feel sorry for the Sox’ financial plight?
  • Finally, over at Fantasy Focus, Marco Fujimoto plays roster doctor. He’s dead, Jim.
  • Right now the Braves are undefeated and on the top of their division. Is anyone opposed to just calling it a season today and going on with our lives? No? OK, just had to ask.

I know how difficult scheduling is, and I know how this might be unfair to some teams.  But.  Jerry Reinsdorf once said something like, “Look, there are really three kinds of weather in the US: southern weather, northern weather, and Great Lakes weather.  They need to take that into account.”

In other words, Great Lakes teams probably ought to open their seasons on the road unless they have a dome or something.  (And that’ll probably be the last time I ever quote Jerry Reinsdorf in support of something, but dag nabbit, he’s right.)

Ah – Opening Day. A crisp, 35 degrees here in the morning shadows of The Ballpark in Arlington. Sunny, Clear, but a 35 mph wind to match the barely-above-freezing temps. No worries, Mate! There are already about 20,000 people set up and tailgating in the area lots, and I’m pretty sure most of them are already tanked. The wafting smoke of grills is everywhere, frisbees shoot up into the horizon (and..just as quickly, fly off into nowheresville from the wind), and when I stopped at the local convenience store a little past 8:00, they were already out of Shiner Bock.  To that end, I think I can find more than a few people out there who share you’re pre-season assessment of a Division Title for The Rangers.

Well, Royce, I would love to see the Rangers win and then com e up against the Yankees.  But to adress both comments, myself and Tigers fan Robbie often discuss the stupid vagarities of the scheduling, and here we are another year older. Playing in the Great Lakes area in April, maybe early May is senseless unless you want to suffer through an August night in Comerica.
Beyond that, will it clear up by 4PM in Balmere?

Let’s just say that there was a giant leap for mankind and Marilu Henner-kind on the exact same date.

Google is your friend. I know it’s out there somewhere.

What about man on the moon and Ted Kennedy?
