Your early afternoon non-baseball post

As a central Ohioan, I’m not sure if I can brag about this or not:

Guys have a reason to high-five in Columbus and two other Ohio cities, named some of the manliest places in America.

A new ranking says Cincinnati, Columbus and Toledo make the top 10 for manliness based on criteria such as the number of major league sports teams, popularity of tools and hardware and frequency of monster truck rallies.

Nashville, Tenn., comes out on top in the study by Sperling’s BestPlaces and commissioned as part of a promotion for Combos snacks made by Mars Snackfood US.

Charlotte, N.C., is second, followed by Oklahoma City and then fourth-place Cincinnati. Columbus is seventh and Toledo 10th.

Dayton is manly enough for 15th and Cleveland ranks No. 19.

New York City finished last out of 50 major U.S. metropolitan areas.

On the one hand, monster truck rallies aren’t exactly something to be proud of. But hey, beating New York in something is always satisfying on some level, isn’t it?

Damn Straight – typed in the manliest way possible (i.e. with tow fingers and several typos).

As a New Yorker, I’m kinda glad that we finished last on a list that seems to imply monster truck rallies are a positive. As a man, I’m kinda insulted that there are people out there who equate monster-truck rallies with manliness. As a person with a sense of humor, I’m just amused.

well there’s actually probably some support for this if you look at it as masculine vs. feminine as opposed to calling it “manilness”. People who score higher on the masculine end of the spectrum on a personality test will likely be those that more often than not (or should I say more often than those who fit into the feminine end) enjoy monster-truck rallies.

I’m guessing that monster trucks were rated more heavily than major league sports teams considering there’s only 3 total among those 3 cities.

as somoene who used to live in columbus and now lives in cincinnati (in the actual city in both, damn it, not that suburban soccer and minivan crap) i am feeling extra manly.  i’m smoking marlboros, drinking budweiser AND eating beef jerky while i type this.

no, scratch that.  it’s deer jerky.  that i shot, cleaned and dried myself.

Either the manliest, or the most inclined to act manly due to their inadequacies relating to where they are in relation to NYC.

I’m from Nashville and I could *not* be more proud…it’s a fine day, indeed. Walking around with my chest puffed out and my head held high.

Good thing they didn’t find out I’m a homo, that alone may have been enough to knock us back to 4th.
